On Sunday, March 16, Bend Pops Orchestra presents its winter concert, themed Pops Goes to the Movies!

Calling all movie buffs!  We have a fantastic line-up featuring some of the most popular movie and theme music in the known universe.  We open with a great medley of Star Wars Through the Years, featuring John Williams’ themes from several of George Lucas’ iconic films.  Next, TV fans can enjoy Downton Abbey, The Suite By John Lunn.  On to more movie action with Danny Elfman’s quirky music from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Rounding out our first half is Disney Film Favorites, with music from The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.

We open the second half with a monumental piece from Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings saga — Fellowship of the Ring.  Next we’re off to Broadway with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton.  And more Miranda goodness caps off our afternoon with music from Disney’s Encanto, We Don’t Talk About Bruno.

In addition to all that great music, we will feature perhaps the world’s first ever bass clarinet quartet, who will feature music from Jurassic Park arranged by Pops’ own Steven Arrasmith!  And another first, the Central Oregon Flute Ensemble will make a special guest appearance with the Pops, playing  Somewhere Out There from the 1986 animated movie An American Tail, followed by a masterpiece of musical arrangement, Gareth McLearnon’s So Many Themes, So Little Time, where you can keep score of the 40 movie and TV themes we play in five minutes or less!  Not to be missed!

Great music for the whole family.  Bring the kiddos!  We’d love to see more littles at our concerts.  And don’t forget our home-baked treats at intermission!
