The Bend Pops Orchestra’s 2026 Spring Concert takes place Sunday, June 7, at 2:00PM, in the Mountain View HS Auditorium. The concert, humorously nicknamed “Popspourri”, is an eclectic mix of fun music along with a very special premiere. As with all our concerts, admission is free and open to all!
The program features works in the Pops’ usual accessible style and range. From the popular music genre we have Journey’s Greatest Hits and Let’s Get Loud from Gloria Estefan. From the land of movie music, we have How to Train Your Dragon, John Williams’ ever-popular Cantina Band from Star Wars, and Somewhere in Time, from the 1980 film of the same title starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. We’re also carrying over our winter concert hits with video game theme Super Mario Bros 3 – Overworld. Rounding out the mix is Soon Hee Newbold’s majestic Angel City, and Jeffrey Bishop’s mysterious Aethelinda.
The highlight of the program will be the premiere of a work commissioned by the Pops from composer Dr. Jennifer Stevenson, written especially for the orchestra. The piece, entitled Return to Joy, explores the complexity and courage embodied in the emotion, and emphasizes the importance of music in reconnection to a childlike sense of joy, particularly during challenging times. The theme resonates with the unique spirit of the orchestra, which has in the past several years more than doubled in size, chiefly with musicians returning to music after long lapses of play.
Don’t miss this exciting program!
